NIGHT PANTHERS

A mobile-first community hub designed to help fans connect, create, and shape the identity of a new NWSL team.

UX/UI Design 8-week project

OVERVIEW

The Las Vegas Night Panthers fan platform is a mobile-first website designed to bring fans together and help build the identity of a new women’s soccer team. Unlike traditional team sites, this platform focuses on community, allowing users to share content, join discussions, and participate in shaping fan culture.

PROJECT GOAL

Design a mobile-first platform that helps fans connect, engage, and build community around a new women’s soccer team.

About the project

The Las Vegas Night Panthers fan platform is an independent, community-driven website created for supporters of a fictional NWSL expansion team. Unlike official team sites, this platform prioritizes fan expression, creativity, and connection.

It serves as a digital space where users can share content, engage in discussions, follow matches, and participate in shaping the team’s culture from the very beginning.

The Challenge

THE PROBLEM

Fans of new women’s soccer teams often lack a dedicated space to connect, share content, and build community. Existing platforms are either fragmented (social media) or too formal (official team sites), leaving fans without a place to express themselves and feel involved in shaping team culture.

How might we create a platform where fans actively shape the team’s identity?

Understanding the user

The platform serves both passionate and casual fans - those who want to actively contribute to the community, and those who prefer quick, easy access to updates and information.

KEY INSIGHTS

Nia — Engaged Fan
A highly active, social-first user who follows games closely and enjoys creating and sharing content within the fan community.

  • Wants to actively contribute (posts, art, discussions)

  • Seeks a strong sense of community and identity

  • Frustrated with toxic or fragmented platforms

  • Expects a smooth, mobile-first experience

Marcus — Casual Fan
A busy parent and casual supporter looking for simple, clear information and family-friendly ways to engage with the team.

  • Needs quick, easy-to-digest content

  • Values simple navigation and clarity

  • Interested in events and bonding experiences

  • Avoids complex or overwhelming platforms

Defining the solution

Based on research insights, the focus shifted toward creating a platform that balances community engagement with simplicity. The goal was to support both active contributors and casual users by providing clear navigation, accessible content, and opportunities for interaction.

Key features were prioritized around fan participation, easy content discovery, and a mobile-first experience to ensure users can quickly engage without friction.

Ideation

I developed low-fidelity digital wireframes to explore layout, content hierarchy, and navigation. This allowed for quick iteration and refinement before moving into higher-fidelity designs. The focus was on ensuring users could easily access key features such as game schedules, news, and community content.

Design Process

I translated research insights into a structured layout by focusing on content hierarchy, navigation, and key user actions. The wireframes explore how users move through the platform, access important information, and engage with community features.

The platform was structured into clear, task-based sections to support both quick access and deeper engagement, with core areas like Schedule, News, and Community allowing users to easily move between essential content and interactive features while maintaining a simple, intuitive navigation experience.

A sticker sheet was created to define typography, color system, and reusable UI components, supporting a bold, high-contrast visual style inspired by the Night Panthers brand while ensuring consistency across screens and enabling faster, more efficient design iteration.

Testing & Iteration

I conducted usability testing to evaluate navigation, content discovery, and account access within the mobile experience. Participants were asked to complete key tasks such as finding game information, exploring content, and accessing their profile. The goal was to identify any friction points that could impact usability and overall engagement.

What I learned

This process reinforced the importance of clarity and simplicity in mobile design. Even small navigation or labeling issues can impact user confidence, and testing early helps uncover friction that may not be obvious during design.

What I changed

Based on feedback, I simplified navigation labels, improved the visibility of key sections, and streamlined access to account-related features. Content was reorganized to reduce friction and make important information easier to find, resulting in a more intuitive and efficient user experience.

Final Design

The final design delivers a bold, mobile-first experience that balances quick access to key information with engaging community features. Clear navigation, strong visual hierarchy, and interactive elements create an intuitive flow that allows users to easily explore content and participate in the fan experience.
